Don’t Forget These 5 Essentials When Going to the Range

When it is time to head out to the range, especially one on open Bureau of Land Management land, there are some important items you want to carry. Many of these hold true for going to an indoor range or a range with a clubhouse or officer, but if it is an unattended range or open land, there are a few additional essentials you will need. Grab your FNX 45 and get ready for a fun day of shooting.

Ammo for All of Your Firearms

First, other than bringing your guns, you need ammo for all of your guns. Whether you bring boxes that you just bought or have ammo cans full of ammo, be sure you have something to shoot. If you are bringing a Glock 21 Gen 4, be sure you bring 45 ACP. Bringing an ammo can of 9mm will not matter if you do not have a gun in that caliber. Bring more ammo than you intend on shooting, just in case you decide to shoot more. Doing target drills can eat up a lot of ammo, after all.

Loaded Magazines

Once you have all of your ammo ready, it is a good idea to load all of your magazines. It can take a while to load all of the magazines, but doing it ahead of time in your home is far more comfortable than doing it at the range. It may be inevitable that you will have to reload magazines at the range, but load what you can ahead of time and come prepared.

Takedown Tools for Maintenance

Bring any takedown tools for your firearms so that you can do any emergency maintenance you might need. If you have a malfunction or a stuck round, it is better to have the proper tools to fix the problem.

Targets for Shooting Practice

Next, you need something to shoot at. Whether it is paper targets or metal targets, you need something to practice drawing your concealed Glock 27 Gen 4 and firing. Whatever you pack out, remember to pack back in. If you go to an indoor range, targets may be provided or available for sale, though you might be able to bring your own targets.

Medical Supplies for Any Injuries

The chances of an injury to yourself or others at a range are typically low as long as you follow the basic safety rules for shooting. That does not mean ricochets can not happen, or you might catch yourself with a staple gun as you set up paper targets. While the latter likely just requires some antibacterial cream and a bandage, it can help to also carry medical supplies and be prepared for any scenario, especially if it is an outdoor range.
