Browning, Glock, Walther: Some of the Firearms From Famous Designers
There are a number of names in firearms design that stand out from the rest. From John Browning to Carl Walther and his son Fritz, the firearms they designed are iconic and well-known, even for those who are not enthusiasts. When you are trying to buy guns online, any of these will serve you well at the range and can help you feel like you are shooting a piece of history. Here are some of the famous gun designers and some of their firearms.
John Browning: The 1911 and the Winchester 1886
Considered one of the most prolific gun designers in history, John Moses Browning held over 100 firearms patents. He designed everything from single-shot rifles to shotguns, but two of his most famous are the 1911 and the Winchester 1894. The 1911 has been used in conflicts all over the world since it was released, and is still in use today, more than a century later. The most famous of the Browning rifles designed for Winchester, the Model 1894, is one of the most popular hunting rifles in history. The Browning Automatic Rifle, or BAR, and primarily the M1918, was another Browning invention and saw extensive use during the late 20th century.
Gaston Glock: Glock 17
Gaston Glock worked in manufacturing before he sold knives to the Austrian army. In was only when he applied for his first firearms patent that the Glock 17 was born. Though it has gone through five generations of improvements, the Glock 17, along with the smaller variant, the Glock 19, is one of the most popular 9mm pistols in the world. Known for its utter reliability, it is perfect for new shooters. Thanks to an extensive aftermarket, it is a favorite in the competitive world.
Carl and Fritz Walther: Walther PP, PPK, and WA 3000
Carl Walther got his start making Mauser rifles but broke off to create his own company. However, it was not until his son, Fritz, joined the company and began making pistols that the famous line of Walther handguns came to be. From the PP to the PPK, the favorite of James Bond, Walther pistols are still popular today. They have inspired other, similar pistols, such as the Bersa 380. Meanwhile, the WA 3000 is one of the most accurate and sought-after sniper rifles ever made, but due to low production numbers, is very hard to find.
