Whether you are a member of the military, a competition shooter, or just someone who enjoys going to the range, you might have a chest rig. However, the question is, what should your chest rig include? What is most important and versatile to carry? Do you plan on using your rig while hunting or just at the range? From hunting to target practice at the range, the main reason you want a chest rig is to hold extra magazines. Having a knife is always a good idea, whether you are hunting or at the range, and a chest rig allows you to comfortably carry a fixed blade knife. This will certainly help if you are out in the wilderness, especially when hunting in the backcountry. Your chest rig can give you quick access to a handy knife for any number of needs at the range, from cutting open bags or boxes to shaping cardboard targets to size.

Individual First Aid Kit and Tourniquet

While it is important to carry extra mags for your Knights Armament AR 15 on your chest rig, it is also essential to include an Individual First Aid Kit. Of course, you can use the IFAK if you ever need it, but the best reason to carry one is to be ready to administer medical aid to another person in an emergency. This IFAK is vital while hunting, at the range, or if you are a member of the military. Accidents do not happen often, but when they do, you should be prepared. Your IFAK might contain a tourniquet, but you will want to stock up with more than one, and you can be sure they are easy to reach by strategically placing them on your chest rig.

Multitool

A multitool can help out in many circumstances. Whether you are helping to punch out a retaining pin, unscrewing the cover of a red dot battery compartment, or something else, there are plenty of reasons you might want to bring a multitool along with your knife when hunting or going to the range. A multitool with diverse options is your best bet for maximum flexibility and functionality.

Flashlight

The flashlight is not just for seeing in the dark. You might need to peer down into the workings of a barrel, or it could come in handy when you are out hunting early in the morning. No matter what, a flashlight is another versatile tool that, when you need it, you will be glad to have on your chest rig.

 Notepad and Pen

A notepad and pen might often get overlooked but, like a flashlight, are a practical addition to your chest rig when you need it. From drawing a map, recording times at the range, or just taking down information from another hunter or shooter, having a notepad and pen handy can be extremely useful.
